Halo 3: Game Fuel

July 31st, 2007

So today I come home to find quite the odd package on my doorstep. Enclosed is a promo pack of sorts, and in it is two cans of a limited edition Mountain Dew called GameFuel. While at first I thought it was a revival of Code Red, it’s definitely not. It is “Dew with an Invigorating Blast of Citrus Cherry Flavor”. It tastes like a mother fucking pack of Smarties.

Anyway, I guess these limited edition Halo 3 cans of GameFuel will hit store shelves August 13th, and run for 12 weeks only.

WiiSit

July 30th, 2007

One more reason that WiiFit simply looks not fun. Stephen Totilo of MTV News found out that by sitting on the WiFit board you can do all the same “exercises” as you can while standing. Of course…my fat ass won’t fit on that thing!

The Multiplayer Blog has the full story.

EA Needs To Ensure 2K’s All-Pro Football Is ‘Not Repeatable’

July 27th, 2007

If this quote isn’t living proof that Electronic “Fuck your mom in the ass” Arts has too much power and money, I don’t know what is. EA’s CEO John Riccitiello made the following quote:
All Pro Football 2k8

“When you’ve got a competitor like Take-Two on the sports side, and they launch a football title using some of the industry legends, you want to make sure that ends up being a blip and is not repeatable, because we like to defend our franchises aggressively.”

Wow. Talk about arrogance. Sounds like EA wants to buy an exclusive license for something they really couldn’t get an exclusive license for. Here is an idea EA…make a game that is fucking good instead of destroying all chance for competition. Focus your efforts on, oh I don’t know, game improvements and design instead of buyouts and assimilation.

AMD Quad Core and Cell Like Processing

July 27th, 2007

AMD held an analyst day in which PC Perspective got some coverage of. During the day AMD discussed the road map for their next CPUs and GPUs over the course of the next 3 years. Needless to see some of this shit is very impressive (and expensive) sounding. Quad-Core 45NM CPUs. A cell like Bulldozer processor with up to 16 cores. 6MB of L3 Cache. It goes on an on.

Be sure to hit up the full article over at PC Perspective and check out the slides. One thing especially interesting is a 32NM core by the year 2010. Holy shit are we getting small.

All I can say is…thank fucking god.

id Software Getting Behind Games for Windows Live

July 27th, 2007

One of the oldest and most repected PC developers, id Software, has made a statement in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz backing Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live initiative. GFWL has been under quite a bit of scrutiny since it launched due to the closed nature of the system, the ludicrous Vista only requirement, and the fact that many of the features available today for PC owners were now going to cost them a subscription fee. Microsoft though is attempting to make some changes, most notably, changing the requirement of Vista only and making GFWL available on Windows XP.
GFWL
So why was id getting behind the program?

“Some people say it’s a little too Big-Brotherish, but it’s a legitimate progression of making the PC feel more - not like a console, but like a closed system,” id’s lead designer Tim Willits

Well that certainly doesn’t sound very good for PC Gamers. Nobody likes a closed system. He goes on to explain that some of the benefits include a certification style system yielding higher quality software, with less incompatibilities. Finally though, it all comes down to piracy, which has plagued the PC platform for years.

“As we move forward, if it can help prevent piracy, if it can help people connect together, if it can help things be more uniform, so when end users buy any PC game they know how to connect, they know how to search for games - I do think it will help the games industry, and it’s just the way things are going to need to move.”

So while it sounds like id may be behind the Games for Windows Live initiative, it doesn’t sound like they are very happy about it.

Resident Evil 5 Screenshots

July 27th, 2007

I’ve just posted 14 new screenshots from Resident Evil 5 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. I absolutely LOVE the look of this game. It’s a setting we rarely see in any games, and the style of the art is just drop dead gorgeous.

Jam Sessions Demonstration

July 27th, 2007

One of the most unique titles I saw at E3 was a little Nintendo DS game from Ubisoft called Jam Sessions. The way the “game” works is it creates a virtual guitar for you on the DS touch screen that you can play. You can then load in chords and note patterns and play the virtual guitar, and even record the music you play. So why not play a real guitar? Well the idea really is to easily experiment on the road without a guitar, and it should help a lot of real musicians write music whenever inspiration strikes. And for up and coming musicians this is a cheap way to start practicing reading and writing music for guitars.

IGN has a preview and demo video up on their site. Be sure to check it out.
